Ordinance would make it easier for business owners to boot cars

Posted:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Drivers beware. A proposed city ordinance would make it easier for business owners to boot your car and more expensive for you to have the boot removed.

Currently a business owner has to observe someone parking in their lot illegally three times before they can have a person's car booted.

A boot is an immobilization device placed on the tire of the car.

The current boot fee is a maximum of $50. The ordinance would raise it to $75. Business owners would also be able to boot a violator's car on the first offense.

Business owners in the bustling area of 12th South said it would help keep their parking lots open for their customers.

The ordinance is scheduled for second reading at the Metro Nashville City Council meeting Tuesday night.
