Nashville named one of country's snobbiest cities

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Travel and Leisure has named Nashville one of America's snobbiest cities.

The magazine complied its list of 20 snobbiest cities based on what it calls traditional "staples of snobbery" including a city's reputation for aloof and smarty-pants residents, high-end shopping and highbrow cultural offerings like classical music and theater.

They also considered 21st century definitions of elitism such as tech-savviness, artisanal coffeehouses and eco-consciousness.

Coming in at No. 13, the magazine noted that Nashville used to be known as "Athens of the South" thanks to it's "well-heeled and distinctly un-hillbilly crowd."

Travel and Leisure also noted Music City's "foodie culture," saying that it attracts celebrities such as Nicole Kidman and Sheryl Crow, who enjoy restaurants like Virago in The Gulch.

Nashville also topped the survey in excellent wireless coverage.
