NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A Metropolitan Transit Authority city bus struck a mother and her 7-year-old son while they were standing near a parked car on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred just after 7:30 p.m. in the 3900 block of Alameda Street near Tennessee State University.

Family members said the woman and her son were standing by a parked car when an MTA bus clipped both of them while it was driving by.

The bus also knocked off a mirror of the car.

According to authorities, the bus driver said she tried to steer away from the mother and her son, but since there were cars on both sides of the road, she was unable to avoid striking them.

After the incident, a friend drove the victims to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment.

Family members stated that the 7-year-old boy received a gash on his head during the incident.

Police reported that both victims' injuries were not life-threatening.

No charges have been filed.
