BELLE MEADE, Tenn. -

A young boy in Belle Meade nearly drowned Saturday afternoon.

Police Chief Tim Eads said a Belle Meade Police officer was flagged down at the intersection of Harding Road and Lynwood Boulevard by an off-duty paramedic.

The paramedic said there was a four-year-old child possibly drowning at the 1300 block of Chickering Road and requested an emergency escort, which he was given.

The officer called the information into our dispatch and they verified that Metro Communications has just sent the call in and that Metro Fire was en route as well.

The Belle Meade officer and paramedic arrived at the home at 3:52 p.m.

Upon their arrival they discovered that the four-year-old boy had been rescued by a family member and resuscitation efforts had begun immediately and were successful.

They checked the child and transported him to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital to be more closely evaluated. He was still coughing up water but was breathing on his own.

The young boy is expected to make a complete recovery.

The off-duty paramedic had just left the residence and was called after emergency officials because they believed he was still in the area.
