NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Metro police arrested Lavaris Comer on Friday for shooting a man multiple times.

Comer is charged in an incident that occurred on May 24 in the 1200 block of North 7th Street.

According to police, Eric Simmons said he was sleeping in his car when he woke up to Comer shooting him.

Comer immediately fled the scene.

Simmons was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was treated for multiple life threatening gunshot wounds.

He told police he has known Comer for approximately four to five years and that he owed him money, but is unable to pay him back.

Simmons believes the shooting was an act of retaliation for the debt he owed.
