Ky. teen re-united with life-saving Vanderbilt LifeFlight crew
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
On Thursday, June 13 Rachel Pentecost was reunited with the Vanderbilt LifeFlight helicopter crew that saved her life.
The 19-year-old Kentucky teen was critically injured in a horrific car accident. The crew flew her to the trauma center at Vanderbilt, keeping her alive along the way, a feat that at times seemed nearly impossible.
One of the crew members said to the teen, "When Chandler and I originally encountered you, we were like this is really bad. Like you are one of the sickest patients that we have ever had."
Family members said prayers and a fighting spirit pulled Pentecost through.
"It is very emotional to come out and see the guys, because the last time we seen em she was so critical we did not know if she was going to make it," mother Kathy Jean Pentecost said.
The chopper pilots presented Rachel with a special momento, her flight wings. However, Rachel's fight is not quite over, as doctors say she has a long and difficult ahead to recovery.
