Vacant house catches fire in south Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Crews are working to put out a house fire in south Nashville Friday morning.

The fire started just after 6 a.m. at a home on McIver Street between Nolensville Pike and Meade Avenue.

Neighbors on both sides of the home were evacuated as a precaution.

First responders said smoke was seen coming from all sides of the home when they arrived. The fire sparked in one room and spread to the attic. 

They were able to quickly put out the fire and are working to douse hotspots.

Firefighters told Nashville's News 2 the home is vacant.

McIver Street is shutdown in front of the home while crews monitor the fire. It is expected to be cleared by 7 a.m.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
