NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A fatal motorcycle crash occurred Thursday evening after a driver lost control of his bike.

The incident happened at 7:30 p.m. on Chestnut Street near 4th Avenue South.

Police reported that prior to the crash, officers observed two motorcycles driving the wrong way on 2nd Avenue South.

Witnesses reported that the riders were jumping the train tracks on Chestnut Street when one driver lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown.

The injured rider was not wearing a helmet and sustained life-threatening injuries.

Prior to the police's arrival, witnesses said that a black GM SUV drove up, put the damaged motorcycle in the back of the vehicle and fled the scene, leaving the driver behind.

The second rider also fled the scene.

Authorities then transported the victim to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Police said that next of kin has been notified.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the contributing factor to the accident was both reckless driving and rider inexperience.

Metro police are now searching for a blue motorcycle with handlebar damage. If anyone has any information regarding the crash, call 615-862-8600.
