NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Two teens are listed in critical condition at a local hospital after a fire broke out at a home in Old Hickory Monday morning.

Officials said the fire started just before 2 a.m. in the back of the home in the 5600 block of Scenic Ridge Drive.

Officials believe the fire was sparked by a grill or hot tub heater.

The teens, one a member of the household, the other a friend, suffered minor smoke inhalation. Two adults who were also inside the home escaped without injury.

Both boys, who are upcoming seniors at Mt. Juliet High School, were transported to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital for treatment. They both are listed in critical condition and are on ventilators.

Family friend Dalton Huber told Nashville's News 2 the teens are "doing okay" and they are expected to remain "in ICU for two to three days."

According to officials, the family awoke startled after hearing a loud explosion, and everyone from the house got out before fire crews arrived.

One of the teen boys leaped from the second floor of the home to escape the flames.

An official said 90% of the home was engulfed in flames. Parts of the home collapsed.

Crews remained on the scene for several hours fighting hotspots.
