Police arrest Nashville purse thief

Metro Police arrested a purse thief on Friday that has been targeting women downtown Nashville.

Police arrested Chastity Alvis, 39, after she reportedly approached a woman on 3rd Avenue North on May 27 and stole her purse after threatening to take her life.

According to the affidavit, Alvis forcibly took the victim's purse and fled in a vehicle driven by her boyfriend.

The victim and other witnesses wrote down the license plate number of the vehicle and reported it to police.

Police stated in the affidavit, that the vehicle was stopped for a traffic infraction a short time before the robbery took place, just one block away. This aided police in identifying the suspect.

Earlier in May, Alvis reportedly stole a purse from a woman at Legends Bar.

The doorman at Legends stated she walked into the establishment empty handed and walked out carrying a black purse.

The report said she ran out of the bar to the vehicle that had dropped her off which was still waiting in the street.

The incident was captured on surveillance cameras at Legends.

Alvis was charged with theft of property and robbery. She is jailed in lieu of a $65,000 dollar bond.
