Man shot in altercation with Dekalb County officers

DEKALB COUNTY, Tenn. -

A man is recovering at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after being shot by officers in DeKalb County late Wednesday night.

According to police, the man drew his weapon when approached by officers of the Sheriff's Office in DeKalb County.

The man's identity or condition was not immediately released.

Authorities initially responded to reports of gunshots in the area of Adcock Cemetery Road.

"The deputy and detective drove to Petty Road and stopped near the suspect's house," the Sheriff said in a release. As they got out of their vehicles and prepared to walk up the road toward his home, the man came out from behind some trees in a neighbor's yard."

The man then drew his gun down on officers. The deputy and a detective drew their weapons and fired multiple shots, according to the sheriff.

The suspect was wounded and taken to DeKalb Community Hospital before he was taken by ambulance to Vanderbilt.

The case is under investigation by the Sheriff's Department, TBI and the District Attorney Generals Office.
