Music City Center adds parking to downtown

Posted: Updated: May 17, 2013 03:26 PM
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

When the new Music City Center opens to the public Sunday it will have the second largest parking garage in Davidson County and will be the most modern parking facility in downtown, according to MCC Security and Parking officials.

There were around 1,200 parking spaces on surface lots in the area now occupied by the massive MCC that spans nearly six blocks.

The new parking garage will replace all of those spaces and add 600 more for a total of 1,800 parking spaces.

Only Vanderbilt University has more parking spaces.

"It is ideal to make it as easy as possible," Director of Security and Parking Richard Wagner said. "It's also important to make it customer friendly."

The garage is located between 6th Avenue South and 8th Avenue South between Demonbreun Street and Korean Veterans Boulevard.

The main entrance into the garage is off 6th Avenue South.

The garage is meant to blend into with the rest of the MCC. The garage has automated garage doors and a mural to help it complement the rest of the convention center.

"It is the most modern parking facility we have in Nashville," Wagner said.

In addition to automated doors the facility has a number of automated pay stations, a surveillance system that's monitored 24/7 from inside the MCC and emergency call boxes that also connect directly to the MCC command center.

"When we have nothing going on in the convention business we will open up the garage to the free market as it was," Wagner said.

That will include some days where people can park in the garage for $5 for the entire day.

Below are the other rates for the parking garage.

Day Transient 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
0-2 hours: $4
2-4 hours: $6
4-8 hours: $10
8+ hours: $12
Night Transient 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.: $5 flat rate
