NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A portion of Interstate 24 was blocked off after a vehicle caught fire early Friday morning.

The fire was reported just before 4 a.m. on I-24 west near Briley Parkway.

Authorities were on the scene within minutes of the fire and were able to contain the fire quickly.

The driver told police the vehicle is brand new. She noticed smoke as she was driving along the roadway and pulled onto the shoulder. A fire sparked moments after.

The woman told police she has a sister who lives in Nashville.

Metro police took the woman to the airport shortly after.

The roadway is expected to be blocked for a few hours because the vehicle needs to cool down before it can be towed.

No further details were immediately released.
