Stewarts Creek H.S. set to open in August

SMYRNA, Tenn. -

Construction continues on Rutherford County's newest high school which is scheduled to open in Smyrna in August.

Stewarts Creek High School is set to have just under 1,500 students drawn from La Vergne, Smyrna and Blackman high school zones.

Upon its completion, the high school will be one of the largest high schools in the state when it opens in the fall.

According to recently appointed Principal Clark Harrell, the school will offer a number of unique academics.

"Dentistry that is not offered in this county is one that we are excited about and also audio. The recording industry is big," Harrell said.

As far as zoning goes, Rutherford County has set up a "grandfathering system" where upperclassmen and siblings zoned to move to Stewarts Creek have the option of staying at their current school if they want.

Principal Harrell added it is an honor to serve as the first principal.

"Everything that I am doing I want to be a place that I would want my children to come to. That goes not only with what we offer, but also how we conduct ourselves," he said.

Stewarts Creek High School, located on Red Hawk Parkway sits on the same campus as Stewarts Creek Elementary and Stewarts Creek Middle, is now hiring for faculty and staff positions.
