NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A federal oversight group has released a report that says a new federal courthouse planned in Nashville isn't necessary.

The conclusion by the Government Accountability Office has left U.S. District Judge William J. Haynes Jr. angry. The Tennessean reports Haynes cited security concerns and an increasing caseload as reasons that a new facility is needed to serve Middle Tennessee residents.

The report, however, says federal standards call for courthouses to be short by two or more courtrooms before a new one is built. The report says the Nashville courthouse has no such shortage.

The newspaper reports about $26 million has already been spent to replace the Estes Kefauver Building, which was built in 1952.
