MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

A multi-vehicle crash in Rutherford County claimed the life of one person Thursday evening.

The incident occurred just after 5 p.m. at the intersection of John Bragg Highway and Double Springs Road in Murfreesboro.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol told Nashville's News 2 three vehicles were involved in the crash.

According to the Daily News Journal, a Ford Taurus was stopped at Double Springs Road and Bragg Highway.

At the same time, a 1994 Ford Ranger pickup truck was traveling eastbound along Bragg Highway when a 2001 Chevy Venture attempted crossing Bragg Highway from Double Springs Road. The Venture pulled into the path of the Ranger.

The Ranger rolled and landed on top of the Ford Taurus.

The driver of the Ford Taurus was killed in the crash and the driver of the Venture was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center via LifeFlight.

It was not immediately clear how many other victims were involved. Reports indicated about three children were transported from the scene.

A nearby worker told the DNJ she heard a loud crash "and squealing tires" shortly before 5 p.m.

Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services, the Kittrell Volunteer Fire Department, and Rutherford County Sheriff's Office all assisted in working the incident.

Investigators were on the scene for several hours investigating.

The victim's names were not immediately released.

No further information has been released.
