A 13-year-old Portland girl has been arrested after she was captured on video fighting with another girl.
The video was posted online and depicts two sixth graders fighting while a few of their classmates watched and recorded the incident on their cell phones.
The fight took place Tuesday on West Market Street.
In the video, one of the girls throws the other to the ground and starts throwing punches.
No one attempts to break up the fight, which lasts about a minute.
Portland police were made aware of the incident after the video surfaced on Facebook and was shared on one of the detective's pages.
"We know that it goes on but it's not often that you get to see a video of it happening at the time that it's happening," said Detective Jason Williams.
One of the girls was taken into custody Thursday morning and charged with simple assault.
"After watching the video, it was kind of obvious that the other girl was attempting to walk away from the situation and the defendant in this case advanced on her and was the aggressor in the fight," said Williams explained.
Officers said the girls attend Portland West Middle School.
Investigators said the brawl was apparently over a boy.
