Metro police arrested a man after he crashed his van while trying to avoid police Wednesday morning.
The driver, Ryan Gardarsson, 24, lost control around 3:30 a.m. on Greenwood Avenue in east Nashville.
Police said they tried to pull him over after he ran a stop sign at a high rate of speed but he kept going.
He lost control of his white van a short time later after running over a sign and hitting a mailbox.
Police don't know why Gardarsson took off because he didn't have a warrant for his arrest and wasn't driving under the influence.
Police said after he crashed, he surrendered with his hands up and said he just "didn't want to get pulled over."
Gardarsson was booked into jail for evading arrest.
