NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Metro police arrested six people in connection to a meth lab that was discovered in a home near Donelson Christian Academy Tuesday afternoon.

The meth lab was found at a residence on Downeymead Drive after neighbors called authorities concerned about possible drug activity.

According to police, meth had been cooked inside the home Monday night. Components to make the illegal drug, as well as a gun inside a lamp stand were also discovered.

Authorities also seized three dogs that had been exposed to the dangerous chemicals.

"We have to be careful. They could be contaminated; we have to keep them separated from other animals here at the shelter," Billy Biggs with the Metro Animal Control said.

The home's primary resident, Joel Koeing, 38, is charged with meth manufacturing and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lisa Koening, 44, Lisa Jones, 43, James Lawrence, 19, Matthew Samuel, 29, and 57-year-old Elliot Smith are all charged with meth manufacturing and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The canines, which are two English bulldogs and a terrier mix, will be assessed for 10 days. Depending on the case, the animals could be returned or put up for adoption.
