Montgomery County churches to hold free clothing giveaway

PALMYRA, Tenn. -

Eight churches in the western part of Montgomery County teamed up to host a free clothing giveaway on Saturday.

The churches collected over 7,000 pieces of clothing which were sorted by size and displayed on racks.

It was the third annual clothing giveaway hosted by the group of eight churches.

"We have clothes for all shapes, all sizes, all ages," said Pastor Phillip Chambers, adding that the clothing "is all sorted, between 7,500 to 8,000 pieces of clothes ready to go."

Chambers is the Pastor of Yellow Creek Baptist Church, one of the eight churches which joined forces to provide the clothing giveaway.

"We have specifically targeted children that are on the free lunch program in this area," he said

"This is what we are called to do and I believe if more people, more churches would do some of this, I believe some of the needs would be met," he said.

While the doors opened at 2 p.m., Chambers invited the Stewart County flood victims to come by early.

"We told them if they wanted to come a little early before 2 o'clock, we would be glad to let them and let them have first shot at everything," said Chambers.

The clothing giveaway was Saturday, May 4 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Family Life Center located on Highway 13 in Palmyra, Tennessee.
