LEBANON, Tenn. -

A young child was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville Friday morning after being ejected from a car during a head-on collision.

The accident occurred in Lebanon near the intersection of Sparta Pike and Greenwood Road around 8 a.m.

Authorities told Nashville's News 2 Shelley Burton was driving a Ford Taurus when she crossed the center line and struck an SUV driven by Susan Eskew.

Burton's car flipped off the highway and came to rest at the bottom of a 10 to 15 foot embankment.

The child, who was in a booster seat, was ejected.

Both drivers of the vehicles were injured and were transported to local hospitals.

Burton was last listed in critical, but stable condition.

The condition of Eskew and the child are not known as of Friday afternoon.

Authorities said charges against Burton are pending.
