A 24-year-old Louisiana man was killed in a wrong-way collision on Interstate 40 East near downtown Nashville early Friday morning.
Christopher Silvio was driving a 2009 Hyundai when a 2004 Jeep, which is believed to have accessed the interstate at the Charlotte Avenue on-ramp, collided head-on.
Authorities said the Jeep's headlights were not on at the time of the crash which occurred around 3:30 a.m.
Silvio died at the crash scene. His 19-year-old girlfriend was also critically injured in the crash and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The Jeep's driver, 34-year-old Kenneth Faulkenberry and his 32-year-old passenger, Robert Faulkenberry, both of South Carolina, were also both critically injured in the accident. They were also transported to Vanderbilt.
I-40 was closed for several hours as crews investigated and worked to clear the scene.
Police said there was not any evidence at the scene to indicate impairment on the part of either driver.
Charges are pending the completion of the investigation.
