Nashville bound plane struck by another aircraft on runway

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A plane departing out of Newark, New Jersey and headed for Nashville was struck by another aircraft on the runway Wednesday night.

Express Jet flight 4226, operating with United Express, departed the gate two hours and eight minutes after its scheduled time.

As it began taxiing the runway, Express Jet reported that its tail was contacted by another aircraft.

"All 31 passengers de-planed the aircraft normally and were bussed to the terminal where they are being re-accommodated," Express Jet said in a statement Wednesday.

Passengers didn't seem too bothered by the incident, other than having to change planes.

"It wasn't that terrible. It was more terrible waiting at Newark Airport another two hours for the next plane," explained Amelia McTamaney.

She added that it felt similar to getting rear ended by a car.

Pat Cooper remarked, "It was very light, but all of the sudden there were 10 large fire trucks around us and then we were escorted back to the hanger."

Crews and officials are working to determine the cause of the incident.

No further details were immediately released.
