Mother outraged over school bus incident

A Sumner County mother is outraged after the very people she said are supposed to keep her 6-year old daughter Shanya safe dropped the ball.

"I don't know if you can really describe the feeling of your child being put in danger. Anyone whose got children would agree," said Stephanie Hull.

Last Wednesday, Hull received a frightening phone call at work from a neighbor who spotted Shanya, a kindergarten student who attends J. W. Wiseman Elementary in Portland, walking home alone after getting off a school bus.

Hull said her daughter should have never boarded that bus in the first place since she was scheduled to attend an after school program, a program she's been attending for over a month.

"She was scared. I was like, 'What were you going to do if no one was here?' She was like, 'I would have sat by the door and waited until you got home'. It would have been another hour before I got home,"  Hull explained.

The school's principal, Dale Wix, personally apologized to Hull both in person as well as over the phone.

He admitted to her that Shanya's own teacher accidentally placed the child on the bus.

"No, sorry is not enough," said Hull.

An apology does not cut it for the mother of two. Hull wants and demands stricter punishment for those involved for putting her daughter's life at risk, such as suspension or even termination.

"I think it's pathetic! I just don't understand it. How are you just going to apologize and think its okay. Why is the teacher not being reprimanded why is the bus driver not being reprimanded?," said Hull.

In regards to taking disciplinary action, a spokesperson for the Sumner County Schools said they do not discuss disciplinary actions concerning their employees.
