FRANKLIN, Tenn. -

Franklin police arrested a 27-year-old woman who refused to sign a littering ticket after she was seen tossing a cigarette from her vehicle.

The incident involving Charlene Ward occurred on Sunday night around 11:45 p.m. on Murfreesboro Road near Southwinds Drive.

Police issued Ward a ticket for littering, which she refused to sign, telling officers to "just take her to jail."

Ward was booked into the Williamson County jail for littering and failure to sign a citation.

She has since been released on her own recognizance after an overnight appearance before a Williamson County Magistrate.

Ward is scheduled to appear in court on May 9.
