Pedestrian identified in fatal I-65 accident

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Police have released the name of a pedestrian killed following an accident on Interstate 65 Friday night.

The man was identified as Jorge Gonzales of Mayfield, Kentucky.

The 38-year-old was seriously injured Friday night after being hit on I-65 near Briley Parkway.

The preliminary investigation shows Gonzales was on the inside median of the interstate attempting to cross the roadway when he was struck by a 2004 Chevrolet Impala driven by Sean Davis, 40, of Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Davis said he was unable to avoid Gonzales, whose vehicle was found parked on the shoulder of the roadway.

Gonzales was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said a friend crossing the Interstate with Gonzales left the scene before police arrived. He was found later in the night and appeared to be intoxicated.

He was interviewed and released. Davis was uninjured.

The preliminary contributing factor to the accident appeared to be Gonzales' presence in the roadway.
