One person was killed in an accident Thursday morning at the Smyrna Nissan plant.
Officials for Nissan said the industrial accident involving an employee of Complete Automation, a company contracted by the plant, occurred in the System I Paint Plant around 10:45 a.m.
The victim, who is from Waterford, Michigan, was killed after being struck by a large electrical panel that tipped over.
Nissan released a statement regarding the accident which read in part, "Our deepest sympathies are with those affected by this tragedy, as well as the family of the deceased. The safety and well-being of our team members is Nissan's top priority. The company is fully cooperating with authorities as they investigate today's tragedy, and is doing everything possible to support those affected in the aftermath of this heartbreaking event."
The victim's identity was not immediately released.
