Donations save dog hit by 3 different motorists

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

An outpouring of donations has saved a wounded dog.

Libby, a Labrador-Pit Bull mix, was rescued early Monday morning after being struck by three different motorists and left for dead near the intersection of Lebanon Road and Spence Lane.

Tonya Howell and two other women witnessed the incident and stopped to help.

Howell took the nearly two-year-old pup to Two Rivers Veterinary Hospital in Donelson, where x-rays revealed a broken pelvis.

Following Nashville's News 2's Monday night broadcast, Libby's story spread quickly through social media.

The animal hospital received countless donations from animal lovers across the country. The Bobby Bones Show, a syndicated morning radio program based at WSIX 97.9FM in Nashville, also pushed for donations.

In less than 24 hours, more than $6,000 was raised to pay for Libby's care. With enough money to cover treatment, the hospital is no longer accepting donations.

Staff with Two Rivers Veterinary Hospital told Nashville's News 2 Tuesday that Libby is "perky and alert."

Libby is expected to undergo surgery Thursday or Friday. She will likely recover in foster care until she is ready for adoption.
