NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A man was arrested for his fourth DUI on Wednesday after admitting to police he was drunk.

Police responded to a car accident on Broad Street near Thompson Lane around 4:30 p.m.

They made contact with one of the drivers, 49-year-old David Hawkins.

Police said they smelled the odor of alcohol on Hawkins and that he had blood shot eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet.

Authorities reported that Hawkins then admitted to police that he was drunk.

A routine license check revealed that Hawkins was also driving on a revoked license and there was a warrant out of his arrest.

Police stated that Hawkins was also unable to perform a field sobriety test.

He was then arrested and charged with driving under the influence for the fourth time, driving on a revoked license for the second time and for his outstanding warrant.

After running the license plate number of the vehicle, the passenger with Hawkins was identified as the owner.

She was also put under arrest for DUI by allowance.

Both Hawkins and the passenger were transported to the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office for booking.
