NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Metro police were on high alert late Tuesday night after a citizen called in about a suspicious package in downtown Nashville.

The package was reported just before 11 p.m. in the 100 block of Church Street near Second Avenue North.

Responding officers discovered a black rolling travel bag attached to a lamp post by a cable lock.

After establishing a command, police set up a perimeter and contacted the Hazardous Device Unit to assist in the investigation.

Officers evacuated area businesses including the Riverfront Tavern, Hooters, and the Beer Sellar.

Investigators determined the bag was filled with clothes and it did not contain any hazardous material. Businesses were allowed to reopen shortly after.
