City leaders are pulled out all the stops for the grand opening of the Korean Veterans Bridge Extension Wednesday.

The extension connects the bridge over the Cumberland River to Eighth Avenue through SoBro, the neighborhood south of Broadway, on the south side of the Music City Center.

The half-mile extension includes bike lanes, 24 new bike racks, sidewalks, transit accommodations, as well as LED sidewalk lighting.

It also includes a new dual-lane roundabout.

Nashville Mayor Karl Dean cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday.

"It's just a big day for the city. You don't do something like this very often, when you build a major street in a major city," Dean said, adding, "It symbolizes all the progress the city has made, but it's also about the future. I mean this new avenue here, this boulevard opens up south of Broadway in a way that's never been opened up before."

The ceremony included performances from songwriters Richard Leigh, Rory Bourke and Dickey Lee.

Dean added the $41 million project came in ahead of schedule and under budget.
