Accused killer appeals 2007 murder conviction

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A man convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend in 2005 is appealing the decision.

Authorities found the body of Christina Hunt, 42, in a shallow grave near the home of Jeffery Trusty.

The two had been in a turbulent relationship and family members said Hunt had recently broken off her engagement with Trusty.

Christina's mother, Wilda Kerr, said her daughter was worried what would happen next.

"And he decided he was going to hunt her down," Kerr said.

Christina was last seen around June 22, 2005. A massive search eventually resulted in the discovery of her body on August 4.

Jeffery Trusty was convicted in 2007 by a Smith County jury of first degree premeditated murder, first degree felony murder, especially aggravated kidnapping, and theft of property over $1000.

A criminal appeals court judge heard oral arguments Tuesday as Trusty asks for his conviction to be overturned.

It was not immediately known how long before a ruling will be issued.
