MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

A Rutherford county mother is asking for everyone's help to find her adoptive daughter who disappeared last Monday.

Zahnaee Chaney walked away from her Murfreesboro home following a visit with her biological family and hasn't been heard from since.

Chaney turned 16 years old on Wednesday.

"It's very scary to go to bed at night and not being able to sleep," Zahnaee's adoptive mother Kendra Chaney said. "It has been difficult."

Zahnaee Chaney spent spring break with her biological family in Nashville and was returned to her Murfreesboro home on the afternoon of Monday, April 8.

According to Chaney's adoptive mother, the teen did not want to get out of her sister's car. When she finally exited the car she was angry and walked away.

It is not the first time the teen has walked away after an argument, but she has always returned.

A maintenance worker for the Cason Estates Apartments reported seeing Chaney between apartment buildings 9 and 10.

The Chaney's filed a missing persons report with the Murfreesboro Police when she failed to return home. They have not had contact with her since April 8.

"This is a big world," Kendra Chaney said. "I really don't know where she is and I just want to get her back."

It is possible Zahnaee Chaney is in the Nashville area with family.

"She wants to be with her biological family," Kendra Chaney said. "She told us the day she left she wants to be with her biological mom."

Chaney's adoptive parents have been in contact with her biological family, but they said she is not with them.

Chaney is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 140 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

She was last seen in the Cason Lane area of Murfreesboro wearing jeans, sandals, a black shirt and ball cap. She also had on pink rimmed glasses.

Anyone with information about Chaney's whereabouts should contact the Murfreesboro Police Department at: (615) 849-2670.
