Murfreesboro man shoots pit bull to protect his dog

No charges have been filed after a man intentionally killed a pit bull on Monday.

Police responded to a call around 4 p.m. on Jackson Street in Murfreesboro.

Once they arrived, they found a dead animal.

A man told police that he shot a pit bull as a last resort after the pit bull attacked his year old Chihuahua named Marco.

Police reported that Marco suffered injuries to his mouth and had a loose tooth.

No tag was found on the pit bull, which had a broken tie attached to it's collar.

Police recovered the shell casing from the man's gun as evidence.

An animal agency responded to collect the deceased pit bull from the scene.

Authorities noted that no charges were filed as it was a justified shooting.
