KNOXVILLE (WATE) - FBI investigators conducted a raid at the Pilot Flying J headquarters in West Knoxville Monday afternoon.
All employees were sent home while investigators entered the business.
Dennis Holenstein with the IRS Criminal Investigation Division confirmed to 6 News Monday evening that they were involved in an investigation at the business, but did not provide further details.
The U.S Attorney's office would not say why law enforcement was there, only saying that it was part of an "ongoing investigation."
A Pilot Flying J spokesperson was also unable to shed light on the nature of the incident.
"At this time, we do not know the nature of the situation. Pilot Flying J is cooperating fully with the authorities," a spokesperson said. "Pilot Food Marts, Pilot Travel Centers and Flying J Travel Plazas remain open and continue to serve the public."
Knoxville police assisted with the investigation.
