McMINNVILLE, Tenn. -

A man and woman are set to serve jail time after their newborn son was born addicted to heroin.

According to a report in the Southern Standard, Kerrie Neal and Joshua Grissom were sentenced to serve 60 days of three year sentences for charges of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

Authorities reported their newborn child was diagnosed with an addiction to heroin following to his birth.

Police added that Grissom gave drugs to Neal during her pregnancy despite knowing she was carrying their baby.

Both Grissom and Neal had hoped to avoid jail time after entering guilty pleas earlier this year.

It remains unknown who has custody of the child.
