Funeral set for Lebanon woman accidentally shot by child

LEBANON, Tenn. -

The funeral for a Lebanon woman who was accidentally shot and killed by a four-year-old boy over the weekend will be held on Saturday.

A viewing for Josephine Fanning will be held Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Michigan Avenue Baptist Church located at 2741 Benton Pike SE in Cleveland.

Fanning's funeral will be held at the church on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The 48-year-old woman was accidentally shot during a family cookout at her home located in the 6700 block of S.E. Tater Peeler Road.   

Authorities reported that Josephine's husband,  Deputy Daniel Fanning was showing a relative a gun, which was locked up in a safe in a bedroom when the incident occurred.

Deputy Fanning removed a pistol to get to a rifle and left it on top of the bed.

The four-year-old boy grabbed the pistol and fired, striking Josephine once.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.
