Clarksville murder suspect surrenders in California

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

The suspect in the death of 32-year-old Patrice Smith, now in California, has surrendered himself following a warrant for his arrest in Clarksville.

Smith was found by police shot, laying on the ground, between the number 26 and 27 buildings on Sunday around 3 a.m.

The shooting happened in the area of Lincoln Drive in Clarksville.

Smith was transported from the scene to Gateway Hospital where she was pronounced dead after 4 a.m.

Detectives were looking for Whiteside who has a criminal homicide warrant on file for the death of Smith.

Information was discovered that linked Whiteside to being in the proximity of the area where the shooting occurred.

Police discovered that Whiteside and the victim were acquaintances.

He surrendered himself to police in Stockton, California around 8 p.m.

Whiteside is awaiting extradition back to Clarksville.
