NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
A woman was arrested for drinking and driving after crashing her vehicle with her two children inside.
Police responded to a call around 9:20 p.m. Thursday in the 600 block of Westboro Drive.
Authorities reported that the mother, identified as Cassandra Pacheco, admitted to drinking one half of a 5th of vodka, as well as taking pain and sleep medications, before getting in the car with her kids, ages 10 and 11.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by News 2, Pacheco told police she "did not realize her medications would take effect as fast as they did."
Both children were transported to the hospital as a precaution and released.
The vehicle sustained heavy damage from plowing over a mail box and crashing into the retaining wall in someone's front yards.
But neighbors say their only concern was for the children.
"They're innocent," said Joey Elkins, who lives across the street from the crash. "They don't know any better. And for a parent to be doing that, they're not much of a parent."
Pacheco was charged with driving under the influence and later released on $5,000 bond.
