NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

The Nashville Sounds kick off their 36th season Thursday to begin an eight game home stand at Greer Stadium.

This season there's a variety of promotional opportunities to entice fans to come out to Greer for the 72-game home schedule.

The first 2,500 fans to the Sounds season opener will receive magnet schedules.

This year's schedule features starting pitcher Tyler Thornburg.

Thursday the team will wear retro blue jerseys for the game as a part of the season-long Burger King Throwback Thursdays, where fans can purchase hot dogs, fountain drinks, beer, popcorn and nachos for just $2 each.

In addition, fans can receive a $5 general admission ticket by presenting a Burger King receipt at the advance financial box office.

College students may also receive the throwback Thursday discounted ticket with a valid student id.

Nashville Mayor Karl Dean will be in attendance to throw out this season's ceremonial first pitch.

It's been a long off-season for the players and coaches, and after nearly two months of spring training, they're more than ready to hit the field.

The team welcomes the New Orleans Zephyrs at 7:05 p.m. Thursday.
