A new report from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation revealed a drop in crime on college campuses statewide.
According to the newly released report, there were around 7,300 offenses reported in 2012, which is a decrease of 300 from the previous year.
Despite the drop in crime on college campuses, violent crimes increased for the third year in a row.
At Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, there were around 30 assault incidents reported last year.
"Most of those were intimidation reports. For simple and aggravated assaults, we remain flat," explained Jimmy Hart, Director of News/Media Relations. "We feel that shows people are being more proactive about reporting threatening situations that could escalate."
The TBI report also found that drug and forcible sex offenses, as well as motor vehicle theft and DUI violations also all decreased.
The most commonly reported offense was larceny/theft.
