MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -

A Murfreesboro cab driver was injured after a customer stabbed and robbed him early Monday morning.

The incident involving driver Nicholas Kennedy occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of East Northfield Boulevard.

Kennedy reported to police he initially picked up the suspect, who was since been identified as Ryan Yount at the Murfreesboro Motel.

The City Cab Company driver said he drove the 18-year-old to the nearby Blackman community before the man brandished a knife and placed it at his neck.

Yount then told Kennedy to drive to a pizzeria on Northfield Boulevard.

Kennedy told police Yount kept the knife at his throat.

Upon arriving at Marco's Pizza, Kennedy said Yount apologized and said, "I'm sorry. I have a daughter to support," before demanding money and stabbing him in the neck.

He got away with $86 in cash and ran from the scene.

Yount was taken into police custody a short time later.

He is charged with attempted murder and especially aggravated robbery.

Kennedy was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
