NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A serial car burglar that was targeting hospitals and gyms was arrested while attempting to break into a car on Vanderbilt University's campus on Saturday.

Police said Bernard Miller, 60, has been breaking into cars since at least November of last year.

Miller reportedly stole an iPad and a purse from a car parked at Baptist Hospital before going to Macy's of Green Hills to use the stolen credit card.

In January, police said Miller broke into a car at the Bellevue YMCA and stole a wallet. Using a card that he stole, police said Bernard spent several hundred dollars worth of items at the same Macy's.

In February, he broke into a car parked on Vanderbilt's campus, taking numerous credit cards, police said.

From there, he bought gas from Mapco, groceries from Kroger, and other supplies from Home Depot.

On Saturday, police spotted Miller walking around parked cars on Vanderbilt's campus. Police said he was near a Ford Explorer that he had just tried to break into with a screwdriver.

Police believe Miller is responsible for several other burglaries on campus.

Miller is currently in jail facing a number of charges.
