Gov. Haslam to accept Federal Medicaid funds if issues resolved

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

Sources say Governor Bill Haslam will accept Federal Medicaid money if certain Federal issues can be resolved.

Sources on Tennessee's Capital Hill told Nashville's News 2 that Governor Bill Haslam will announce a plan "unique to Tennessee" as his response about whether to expand Medicaid in Tennessee.

Sources say the Governor's plan calls for using the Federal Medicaid money in a way that does not produce a deficit issue in future years.

The plan would require a change to current Medicaid expansion guidelines which call for states like Tennessee to pay about 10 percent of the program following the initial three years of expansion.

The Federal Government would have to give its approval to this plan.

Sources say Governor Bill Haslam will announce his Medicaid plan Wednesday before a Special Session of the Tennessee General Assembly.
