A local garbage collector is facing a long list of charges after being accused of breaking into a home while he was on the job.

Around 9:00 a.m. Monday morning, Keith Clements, 31, was on the clock and supposed to be doing his job as a garbage collector.

Instead, a resident said she found him inside her home on Castleview Drive in Hendersonville.

The resident returned home to find the burglar inside her house in the middle of burglarizing her.

She called 911, and Clements fled the scene.

Police said Clements took thousands of dollars of electronics, jewelry and medication with him.

About two hours later, the suspect was found in a nearby wooded area and arrested.

Clements has been charged with aggravated burglary, theft over $1,000, vandalism over $500, evading arrest, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Neighbors were shocked that the garbage collector was charged in the crime.

"Well I think it's very frightening," said neighbor Virgie Carver. "Sometimes I'm out in the yard or going to pick up the paper. I trust them and I never expect them coming in or having a home invasion or anything of that sort."

Hendersonville police say Clements has a criminal history involving burglaries.

Clements was working for Allied Waste through a temp service.

Nashville's News 2 was unable to reach the temp service to ask whether the company conducts background checks on employees.
