High school athlete hospitalized, breathing with ventilator

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. -

A Rutherford County high school athlete was hospitalized earlier this month and remains on a ventilator.

Riverdale High School pitcher Clay Riggs, recently had knee surgery. Shortly after the operation, the teen's lungs began failing.

Doctors are unsure if the surgery and Riggs' failing lungs are related.

He remains at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.

A Facebook page has been set up in support of Riggs.

No additional information was released.
