VAN BUREN COUNTY, Tenn -

An Alabama woman was spelunking with six other friends when she fell about 35 feet down a pit inside Fox Hole Cave, near Spencer, Saturday afternoon.

The 41-year-old fell around 3:30 p.m. and became trapped. EMA officials received the call around 4:15 p.m.

The rescue operation took a total of seven hours.

At one point during the seven hour rescue officials had to send in medication to her.

The entrance of the cave is near a sinkhole around 100 feet deep making the rescue difficult.

Officials finally rescued her from the cave successfully around 11 p.m.

Her name was not immediately released.

The woman was taken by ground to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.

She was talking and alert when they rescued her. Medics believe she might have pelvic injuries.

Officials are still unaware of how she fell.

Fox Hole Cave is apparently popular with the spelunking community.

It's in northern Van Buren County off Highway 111, about two miles from the White County line.

Agencies responding to the incident were emergency services from Van Buren County, Chattanooga Cave and Cliff, Putnam County Rescue Squad, and Knoxville Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad Cave Team.
