Motorcycle ride benefits baby born with enlarged heart - WKRN, Nashville News, Nashville Weather and Sports

A benefit will be held this weekend to help the family of baby Andrew, a boy who was born last year with an enlarged heart.

"Andrew is doing very well, as you can see he's lost his oxygen now and is breathing on his own, which we are very excited about," said Keith Hagewood, Andrew's dad.

"The biggest thing he's done in the past couple of weeks is roll over," he added.

The first annual "Heart Ride" will take place in Summer County on Saturday.

Motorcyclists will ride their bikes beginning at Millersville Church of Christ in Goodlettsville at 12 p.m. Registration begins at 11 a.m.

Each motorcyclist who registers is asked to make a $20 donation to help the Hagewoods with medical bills. Their insurance deductable has been reached, but not before out-of-pocket costs.

"The first parts of the year are definitely harder. When you have, like Andrew here, his bills just max out everything the first couple of days," Hagewood said.

Andrew has been in and out of the hospital since he was born. The longest he's been out of the hospital is seven days. This time he's been home for five.

"Last night was the first time we have been able to sit down as a family, as a whole, with his older sisters and my wife and myself. And he had his own chair at the table," said Hagewood.

Saturday's ride will end at Buffalo Wild Wings on Indian Lake Road in Hendersonville.
