Man in jail after head butting, trying to bite officer
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
A Nashville man is in jail after attempting to bite and head butt two Metro police officers late Thursday night.
Police first made contact with James Shane at a gas station on Lafayette Street when he was reportedly trying to break into a car. When the victim approached Shane, he pulled a knife before running away.
When officers apprehended Shane shortly thereafter, the victim positively identified him, and police placed him in the back of a patrol car. Once in the car, the suspect "became irate" and started head butting the window. Shane also attempted to kick out the window of the car.
When officers attempted to restrain the suspect once more, Shane tried head butting one of the officers in the face. When the other officer was putting the seat belt on the suspect, Shane then tried to bite the officer in the arm.
After Shane tried to bite the officer, the suspect admitted to being Hepatitis C positive. The officer said in a police affidavit that the suspect put him in direct fear for his personal safety due to his illness.
The officers then transported the suspect to the hospital where he tried to head butt the officer once again.
Shane is in jail charged with aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated assault on an officer, aggravated criminal trespassing and public intoxication.
