Police seek man who attempted to rob bank, gave up

A man attempted to a rob a bank in Cookeville on Tuesday and authorities are seeking information on the suspect.

Cookeville police responded to a call at 4 p.m. about an attempted robbery at F&M Bank located at 541 South Willow Avenue.

An employee told authorities that a male subject came into the bank and requested several small currency exchanges then left.

The employee said that 10 minutes later, the same man returned to the bank requesting another exchange, however this time he passed a note that read, "This is a robbery."

The suspect then indicated that he had a gun.

After a brief time, the suspect took the note from the counter and left.

No weapon was ever seen.

No one was harmed and nothing was stolen.

The suspect is described as a heavy white male between the ages of 25 and 35. He had red hair and was wearing dark pants, a dark jacket and baseball cap.

The employee observed the suspect leaving the parking lot and believes he drove away in a white Chevrolet without a license plate.

The vehicle traveled south on Willow Avenue.
